Rush Street Interactive (RSI) has welcomed Thomas Winter, the former head of DraftKings, to their board of directors. The CEO of RSI praised Winter’s extensive experience as a significant asset for the company. Winter officially joined the US and Latin American operator on December 16, expanding the RSI board to nine members.
Thomas Winter, a veteran in the industry, began his career in January 2008 as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Betclic, a role he served in for two years. In December 2009, he took on the position of COO and director at Expekt.
In July 2010, Winter advanced to CEO of both Betclic and Expekt, before eventually departing in December 2011. He then spent nearly two years as an independent consultant with JUMP Advisory Services until August 2013, when he transitioned into a non-executive director position, first at Groupe Paris Turf and then at Metro Play.
By March 2018, Winter joined Superbet as a board observer, where he remained for four years. He also founded and led Golden Nugget Online Gaming, taking the company public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in December 2020.
In August 2021, DraftKings acquired Golden Nugget Online Gaming for $1.5 billion, completing the deal in May 2022. Following this acquisition, Winter became the general manager of igaming for North America at DraftKings, until he left the company in September 2023 to take a sabbatical.
Currently, Winter contributes as a board member and senior adviser to Awager.
Upon Winter’s induction to RSI, CEO Richard Schwartz expressed enthusiasm about his expertise. Schwartz stated, “We are delighted to have Thomas join our board. His extensive experience in online gaming and strategic insight will be critical as we look to broaden our reach and enhance our services. We anticipate his valuable contributions and are confident in the impact his expertise will have on our future growth.”
Towards the end of October, Schwartz commented that he did not foresee any further tax hikes in the US following Illinois’ decision to replace its flat 15% tax rate with a variable rate between 20% and 40% based on operator revenues.
