Corbishley has dedicated the last four years to the British Red Cross as its senior director of health and care. Prior to this, she held various management roles within the NHS, focusing on its voluntary and healthcare innovation sectors.

“As GamCare navigates the evolving landscape, Victoria’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our collaborations with the NHS, UKRI, and OHID as the new prevention commissioner,” stated GamCare board chair Margot Daly in a statement released today (27 February).

GamCare aims to enhance accessibility and deepen its cooperation with key stakeholders by hiring Corbishley. She will oversee and expand the organization’s outreach, treatment, and education services.

Commenting on her appointment, Corbishley said: “Last year alone, GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received over 55,000 calls and online chats. The charity directly delivered over 9,100 structured treatment sessions, referred more than 7,100 individuals to other regional support providers, and 64,000 people participated in the charity’s education programs.

“These statistics highlight the crucial role GamCare plays in assisting those affected by gambling harms and reinforce our commitment to accessible, high-quality care.”

## GamCare interim CEO steps aside

Corbishley takes over from D’Arcy Myers, who has served as interim CEO of GamCare since August 2023. Myers succeeded Anna Hemmings, who served as the group’s CEO for five years.

Myers formerly led The Percy Hedley Foundation, Allergy UK, and The Solicitors Charity. He also chaired The Smallwood Trust and the Association of Charitable Organisations.

In 2023, GamCare received funding from the gambling support charity Gamble Aware. This funding enabled GamCare to operate for another three years. The charity has managed the National Gambling Helpline for the past 25 years, supporting the provision of digital tools to assist individuals with gambling issues.

With this funding, GamCare plans to enhance its digital tools and resources supporting the National Gambling Helpline, and deliver improved regional services and treatment in London, Yorkshire and Humber, Scotland, the South East, East Midlands, and the North East.

Last year, GamCare appointed Mark Weiss as the charity’s deputy CEO. Weiss spent seven years at the UK Faculty of Public Health before joining GamCare in 2022, where he led the group’s communications and “external engagement” program.

UK gambling support charity GamCare has appointed former NHS manager and British Red Cross director Victoria Corbishley as its CEO.
