Full House Resorts and American Place Casino officially broke ground on the permanent American Place Casino, marking a major milestone in the property’s evolution and a significant investment in the future of Waukegan and Lake County.
Community leaders, project partners, and state and local officials joined executives from Full House Resorts and American Place Casino to celebrate the start of construction on the permanent facility, which will be built on the 42-acre site that it shares with the current temporary casino.
The groundbreaking kicked off the first phase of construction for American Place Casino, which will include 200,000-square-feet of permanent casino space and three full-service restaurants and bars. The gaming floor will feature approximately 1,300 slot machines and 80 table games.
During the groundbreaking, Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham called American Place Casino one of the largest economic development projects in the city’s history, noting that it will create 400 construction jobs and help turn the city into an economic engine for the region.
Construction is expected to take two years, with an anticipated opening date set for 2028. The temporary American Place Casino will continue normal operations throughout the development process.
