Flutter Entertainment company secretary Edward Traynor has stepped up to become interim chief legal officer (CLO) after Don Liu stepped down from his post.
As confirmed in an SEC filing, Liu informed the operator’s board on 28 September that he intended to resign as chief legal officer, effective from 30 September.
Traynor officially took on the interim brief on 1 October, the same day Dan Taylor replaced Peter Jackson as the Paddy Power and FanDuel parent’s CEO.
Liu was appointed as Flutter’s chief legal officer from 21 April 2025.
He previously served as executive vice-president and chief legal and compliance officer at US retail giant Target.
Liu spent eight years with Target, having joined from Xerox. The exec counts stints with the Toll Brothers and IKON Office Solutions on his CV.
Traynor has served as Flutter’s group company secretary for more than 11 years. He previously had significant spells within telecommunications, including at Vodafone.
Additionally, a separate SEC filing from the New York-listed giant revealed Taylor will be paid a base salary of $1.14m (£861,441) per year, plus a $110,000 “directorship fee” from 2027.
The handover from Jackson to Taylor was announced alongside Flutter’s Q2 earnings. Jackson had been in the hot seat for almost nine years.
Taylor will also be handed various incentives via restricted stock units that will vest over one, two or three years. He will receive 5% of his base salary as a pension payment.
The new CEO will have a 12-month notice period.
Liu said: “Second time’s the charm. Today I begin my second retirement. After retiring from Target as its CLO in 2024 for all of eight months, I went back to work full time at Flutter Entertainment, the owner of FanDuel.
“Initially sold to me as a three-month summer gig in London as Flutter’s interim group CLO, the opportunity to try something completely different at the world’s leading online gaming company was too irresistible.
“Of course, I wound up working there for almost 18 months. It was a wonderful detour from my retirement.
“Thanks to Flutter’s terrific executive team and board, the larger Flutter team and, most importantly, my amazing team. I thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected experience.”
