In the 2023 corporate responsibility report from Wynn Resorts, CEO Craig Billings emphasized his commitment to laying out the company’s core values rather than issuing a generic statement.
He highlighted Wynn’s foundational principles, which include prioritizing people, fairness, personal accountability, and continual progress. “When a team embodies these values, decisions are made swiftly and ethically,” Billings notes.
At Wynn, people take precedence. Decisions are guided by favorable outcomes for employees, guests, or shareholders, aiming to provide not just jobs but careers. To support this, Wynn increased its learning and development budget by over 75% in 2023, driven by a genuine intent to make a positive impact.
### Wynn’s Approach to Recognition
Billings explains that the focus is on solving difficult issues rather than seeking accolades. “We haven’t released statements about our talent development programs from HBCUs, our CLIMB initiative for enhancing internal talent, or our contributions toward solutions for Las Vegas’ homelessness,” he states.
The company remains authentic in its operations. Luxury doesn’t equate to wastefulness, according to Billings. To operate sustainably, Wynn sorts waste and recycles food in Las Vegas, bottles water locally in Macau, and utilizes solar battery storage in Boston, ensuring guests still receive top-notch experiences.
In 2023, Wynn’s sustainability led to diverting 41% of waste from its Las Vegas resorts away from landfills, setting a record. Soap from guest rooms was also recycled, with 4,000 pounds from Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Boston Harbor transformed into hygiene products in collaboration with Clean the World. North American resorts operated with 29% renewable energy last year, with a target of being net-zero by 2050.
### Contributions of Time and Resources
In the preceding year, Wynn employees donated upwards of $1 million to the Wynn Resorts Foundation through direct donations and fundraising, marking a company record. Furthermore, the company contributed nearly $9 million in cash and services to North American charities and dedicated 35,000 hours to volunteering. Wynn was recognized by Forbes for its significant social impact.
“These actions define the essence of Wynn Resorts, now and for the future,” asserts Billings. This strategy aligns with the company’s core beliefs.
