Finland’s state-owned gambling operator Veikkaus has revealed plans to expand into international markets as it prepares for competition in online gambling after losing its domestic monopoly.
Veikkaus was founded back in 1940 and has held a monopoly over gambling since then; however, with Finland opening applications for online gambling licenses in July 2027, new operators are expected to enter the iGaming market, leaving Veikkaus as the sole operator of the national lottery and land-based gambling.
Veikkaus stated:
“In line with our vision, we want to evolve from a national gaming company into a successful player also on the international stage and strengthen our competitiveness in an increasingly global market. Our goal is to be a respected and successful international money gaming group by 2030.”
The operator already sells games abroad through its B2B studio, Fennica Gaming, which operates in 17 markets in 3 continents, but Veikkaus’s latest report suggests that the company wants to start positioning itself as a global gaming brand. Currently, the operator hasn’t revealed whether it plans to expand by improving its B2B offerings or by applying for B2C licenses to be able to operate abroad.
In 2025, Veikkaus reported €936 million in revenue, which was a 2.4% decline compared to 2024’s €959 million, and final profit stood at €447 million.
