DAZN has appointed former Betfair CFO Alex Gersh as its new finance chief as part of a wider C-suite shake-up at the streaming giant.
Gersh, who spent nearly six years as Betfair’s finance chief between December 2012 and October 2018 – a stint spanning the exchange’s merger with Paddy Power – replaces Darren Waterman, who moves into a newly created chief business officer position. Patrick Delany joins as chief operating officer.
Since departing Betfair, Gersh has held CFO roles at Sportradar and Paysafe Group, from July 2020 to September 2022 and October 2022 to September 2024, respectively.
Most recently, he was CFO at wealth management firm Evelyn Partners.
At DAZN, Gersh will be tasked with overseeing “financial strategy, capital allocation, performance and long-term value creation”.
The addition of Gersh’s betting experience to the C-suite comes after DAZN’s betting brand, DAZN Bet, made its first move into prediction markets in July, via a partnership with ADI PredictStreet.
Pending regulatory approval, the deal will see DAZN make use of the prediction markets platform powered by Abu Dhabi-headquartered blockchain platform ADI Chain and distribute it to DAZN users in regulated markets across the globe.
Delany arrives from DAZN subsidiary Foxtel, where he was CEO for the past nine years. Prior to that, he held the same position at Fox Sports Australia.
The incoming COO will be based in London and be tasked with “end-to-end responsibility for the day-to-day trading performance of DAZN” as well as the overall running of its operational business, pricing and packaging.
Having served as CFO since 2022, Waterman will lead the firm’s “strategic commercial, partnership and transformational opportunities” in the new role of CBO.
Alongside the additions, DAZN announced DACH region CEO Alice Mascia will leave at the end of the year after four years in charge. She will be replaced by current deputy CEO and Felix Krause.
Krause, who will step up to CEO on 1 January, previously spent six years with the company in several roles between December 2018 and January 2025, including head of strategy and senior vice-president of commercial strategy and business development.
