Entain begins search for new UK marketing boss

Entain’s UK chief marketing officer, Charlotte Emery, has departed the London-listed operator after two years in the role.

Her exit has been described as “mutually agreed” by the company, which has now begun an executive search for a replacement.

Emery first joined the Ladbrokes and Coral parent company’s top team in June 2024, following an 18-month spell as an independent consultant.

Prior to that, Emery spent four years at William Hill in high-profile marketing roles between November 2018 and January 2023.

She initially joined as global brand marketing director in 2018, before moving to the position of global chief brand officer in September 2020.

Before moving into the gambling industry, Emery spent six years at British American Tobacco from September 2012 to October 2018, working across its Lucky Strike, Vogue and Kent brands.

The other major stint of Emery’s career came at drinks manufacturer Bacardi, serving as a global director between October 2005 and March 2010.

Entain UK and Ireland managing director Bejay Patel said: “Charlotte has played a significant role in the continued growth and development of our UK brands – Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala, and Foxy – leading the marketing function with passion and energy over the last two years.

“We would like to thank her for her contribution and wish her every success in the future.”

Under Emery, Ladbrokes became an official betting partner of Liverpool FC, Coral and Ladbrokes rolled out new ad campaigns and PHD was hired as the group’s new media buying agency partner.

At a group-level, the operator appointed former Aristocrat and Bally’s head Sheila Bangalore as an independent non-executive director in May.

This followed Ricky Sandler stepping down from Entain’s board of directors earlier in the month after the activist investor shuttered his Eminence Capital vehicle.

Last week, Entain confirmed plans to axe 500 roles across its online operations, equivalent to nearly 2% of the FTSE 100 operator’s global workforce.

The job cuts are expected to affect roles across product, technology and corporate divisions.

The move forms part of the company’s strategy to mitigate the impact of tax hikes introduced into the UK market.

Remote gaming duty in the UK increased from 21% to 40% in April, as announced as part of November’s Autumn Budget.

Entain followed the likes of Rank Group and evoke in trimming its headcount as a result of the tax hikes.
