Football fans appear to be less enthusiastic about England’s World Cup chances heading into the Three Lions’ first game of the tournament, according to an analysis of global betting activity by Sportradar.

Of the hundreds of thousands of betting tickets Sportradar has processed in the World Cup outright winner market, England now accounts for five per cent. There’s been a shift in fan sentiment since the start of April when England accounted for eight per cent of the betting tickets in the outright winner market.
In the World Cup outright winner market currently, fans are showing their support for France, who account for 13 per cent of the betting tickets, Portugal (12 per cent), Spain (11 per cent), Norway and Argentina (10 per cent).
Fans favour England over Croatia
So far Sportradar has processed more than one million betting tickets for England v Croatia on Wednesday night. Fans are currently favouring England to win the game with approximately 60% of the betting tickets for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Kane’s quality in front of goal the difference for fans
Given Harry Kane’s goal scoring record last season, it’s unsurprising to see fans showing their support for the England captain in the player betting markets. England’s all-time leading goalscorer accounts for more than 60 per cent of the betting tickets in the ‘player to score’ market and 90 per cent of the betting tickets in the ‘player to score with right foot market’ – Kane’s favoured foot.
