The Danish Gambling Authority’s (DGA) self-exclusion register (ROFUS) has exceeded 60,000 users across the country.

As of May 2025, the register reached 60,325 users, up from the 1,456 users the platform had when it first launched in 2012.

Registered players are able to select a temporary ban on their gambling activity ranging from 24 hours to six months, or a longer exclusion which can only be lifted after one year.

Since January 2020, it has been a requirement for Danish operators to refer to ROFUS in all marketing materials.

The regulator attributed the rise in registrants to targeted responsible gaming campaigns over the last few years, the most recent of which was the ‘Take it easy with ROFUS’ initiative which launched earlier this year.

DGA director Anders Dorph said: “It is gratifying that those who need to exclude themselves from gambling are using ROFUS.

“This shows that awareness of the tool is growing and that it fulfils an important function in the effort against gambling addiction.”

From the total number of registered users, more than three quarters (78%) are men according to the May 2025 data.

Young men in particular are prominent on the register, with those under the age of 40 making up 58% of those registered.

The most common age and gender bracket represented on ROFUS is men aged between 20-29, making up 30% of those registered.

Of those signed up with ROFUS and under the age of 20, 96% are men, while males account for 89% of the 20-29 demographic.

Dorph added: “The figures confirm a trend we have seen for several years – namely that young men are particularly at risk of problematic gambling behaviour.

“Therefore, we work purposefully with information in this particular group, including through presentations at youth educations.”

Back in April, the DGA launched its ‘Play it Cool’ campaign aimed at 18-24-year-olds, designed to raise awareness of the regulated gambling market and deter the use of the black market.
