During the GAT Expo 2026, the president of Coljuegos, Marco Emilio Hincapié, reported that, since 2022, the entity has transferred a total of $3.6 trillion to the subsidized Colombian healthcare regime, which corresponds to 41.84% of the total resources generated by the sector since 2012.
“Never before have games of chance and gambling been in a better position. Thanks to our efforts in revitalization and regulation, we have managed to transfer almost half of the resources that the sector has generated in its entire history in just three years,” said Hincapié.
According to the official, in 2025 alone, $1.1 trillion in monopoly revenues were transferred, resources that allowed for subsidized medical care to be provided to approximately 836,000 low-income Colombians.
“To this figure, we must add the approximately $1.3 billion contributed by the 14 online gaming operators in VAT. With these resources, the National Government was able to advance peace and reconciliation programs in the Catatumbo region,” the president stated.
He added: “All of this was made possible by our tireless fight against illegality, because never before in the history of Coljuegos had an administration dealt such a heavy blow to the mafias that operate games without authorization.”
In this regard, the president highlighted the seizure of 8,113 illegal items in 234 operations carried out in 20 departments; in addition to the destruction of 12,833 slot machines, bingo games, online betting modules, among other items that were being used without authorization.
“Since online gambling began operating in 2017, Coljuegos has issued 41,884 blocking orders against illegal websites. However, of that total, 32,463 correspond to requests sent by this administration,” Hincapié explained.
Similarly, the president of Coljuegos highlighted the entity’s efforts to expand the offering and revitalize the sector with games such as keno, raffles, and Virtual Sports Racing Betting.
“The Keno game will launch on April 1st, and it’s expected to contribute approximately $500 billion to healthcare over the next five years. We’ve also finalized the technical specifications for the raffles and updated the ACDV regulations. With all of this, we hope to strengthen the legal framework and provide more options for bettors.”
The statement comes as the government has introduced a controversial new tax on operators. Through a new decree, President Gustavo Petro’s administration has revived emergency economy taxes including a 16% VAT on online gambling.
The government argues that these measures are necessary because resources are insufficient to address historic floods in northern Colombia which have left 14 dead and 120,000 people affected.
