Workers at Buenos Aires Province casinos have rejected the salary proposal presented by Governor Axel Kicillof and are now waiting for a new offer that could help break the deadlock in negotiations.
The Union of Administrative, Maintenance, and Services Employees (AMS) of the Provincial Casinos deemed the official proposal insufficient.
From the union led by Roberto Páez, it was emphasized that the offer fails to restore wages in key areas vital for the daily operations of casinos, such as Administration, Maintenance, Services, Technical, and Labour sectors.
Following the formal rejection, negotiations moved to a recess, with an agreement for a new meeting in the coming days. In this framework, the provincial government committed to presenting a concrete proposal from the Governor’s office during this week, keeping expectations for progress alive despite the increasing tension.
The rejection adds to a wave of refusals that have affected nearly all state unions in the province. The initial salary offer from the province for January—a 1.5% increase—was also unanimously rejected by teachers, state workers, judicial employees, and healthcare workers. The unions concurred in labelling it “insufficient” and noted it falls significantly short of the accumulated salary losses.
Inflation for 2025 closed at 31.5%, while wage increases granted by the province reached only 25.9%.
AMS insisted that salary discussions must take into account the strategic role that casino workers play, both in terms of public service and the sustainability of the system.
Alongside the collective bargaining discussions, the union is actively pursuing a longstanding demand for the equalization of the Compensatory Bonus received by employees of the Pension Fund. The proposal aims to rectify salary disparities among workers performing similar functions within the casino framework.
According to AMS representatives, the goal is to implement the principle of “equal pay for equal work” for personnel in Administrative, Technical, Labor, Maintenance, and Services areas. “We are not second-class workers,” union representatives said.
