Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court highlights series of failings

Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court has ordered Casino Neuchâtel to pay a fine of CHF500,000 for allowing nine player to continue playing despite being banned.

The casino, which operates with five tables and 160 slot machines, failed to address that the players spent much more money than their income actually allowed. The couirt said the casino had not obtained certain information that would have been necessary to clarify their financial situation.

In three cases, it was the players themselves who had requested their exclusion. However, the casino did not react to this, according to a ruling by the Federal Supreme Court.

Following an inspection at the casino’s premises in August 2022, these violations were revealed during a review of the files of players.

In 2023, the Federal Casino Commission sanctioned the casino and imposed a fine of four per cent of the gross gaming revenue for 2021.
