The Betting and Gaming Council has welcomed Poppy Gustafsson to the position of minister for investment.
The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is the UK’s main gambling industry lobby group. The company announced its new minister for investment’s arrival before the International Investment Summit, which will be driving economic growth in the UK.
Members of the Betting and Gaming Council are already making significant investments in the UK economy, investing £7.1 billion and generating £4.2 billion in tax revenue while supporting 110,000 jobs across the country.
This impacts having industry-supported jobs located outside London. For example, the West Midlands alone is home to almost 20,000 positions.
However, the BGC has expressed concern about the future, describing the industry as being “at a crossroads.” Any future tax increases or regulatory changes could put jobs and economic growth at risk.
BGC CEO Grainne Hurst commented:
“On behalf of our members, the 110,000 people whose jobs rely on the regulated betting and gaming industry, and the 22.5 million people who enjoy a bet each month, I’d like to congratulate Poppy Gustafsson OBE on her appointment as Minister for Investment. Poppy is an accomplished entrepreneur and brings a wealth of much-needed business and financial experience to this new role. I’m also delighted to see that she will be a joint minister across the Department for Business and Trade and the Treasury, where I know her private sector expertise will make a huge contribution.”
BGC is working on unlocking significant investment opportunities through the UK and is urging the government to move forward without delay to ensure continued growth and stability for the sector.
