Betsson Group’s chief technology officer (CTO), Fredrik Ögren, has announced his departure from the company.
Ögren first joined the Stockholm-listed operator in August 2019, initially serving as a cloud and DevOps director until January 2021.
He then moved to the role of director of platforms and infrastructure before stepping up to the CTO position in July 2021.
EGR understands Betsson chief product officer Ryan Schembri has taken on the CTO brief in an interim capacity after Ögren’s exit.
Schembri has served as product chief since December 2023. He rejoined Betsson, which runs brands such as Betsafe and Rizk, in January 2022 following a stint with Begame Group.
He originally spent more than seven years with the firm after joining from Vodafone in 2013.
Ögren succeeded Peter Fray in the role, who jointly acted as chief product officer in addition to working as CTO, as part of a reshuffle of the firm’s C-suite.
Prior to moving into the gaming sector, much of Ögren’s experience came from the media industry.
He worked as infrastructure director at Swedish media firm Bonnier News from 2018 to 2019 and before that headed up DevOps at media outlet Expressen between 2014 and 2019, having held a similar role at Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri between 2013 and 2014.
Announcing his departure on LinkedIn, Ögren wrote: “World Cup 2026 is a wrap, and so is my time with Betsson.
“It has been an amazing journey, growing both organisation, volumes and share price. While it feels tough to leave behind a record-breaking team, it feels good to now get reacquainted with my family back home.”
A Betsson spokesperson said: “We can confirm Fredrik Ögren is no longer serving as chief technology officer at Betsson Group.
“We are grateful for his contribution during his time with Betsson and wish him all the best for the future.”
Earlier this month, Betsson completed its acquisition of Rhino Entertainment’s Canada-facing B2C division in a deal worth €64.5m (£55.2m).
Betsson AB reported revenue of €310.2m for the second quarter of 2026, representing a 2% increase year on year, thanks in part to gains made during the 2026 World Cup.
