UK bookmaker Betfred has teamed up with Checkd Dev to incorporate the latter’s Automated Betting System (ABS) technology.

The partnership with Checkd Dev, part of iGaming tech provider Checkd Group, will see Betfred leverage ABS to improve its efficiency and engagement when it comes to pre-match football accumulator betting thanks to a suite of pre-configured, one-click accumulator bets.

Betfred’s trading team will now work with a robust backed platform for streamlined bet creation, management and settlement, offering customers football bets with dynamically assigned probabilities that are based on historic team form.

Checkd Dev’s ABS on the Betfred platform will be complemented by Betfred’s own Acca Flex bonus proposition, which ensures players get additional bonuses for their winning bets and a money-back guarantee when a single leg is lost.

Mark Hartley, Head of Product at Betfred, said: “Since moving onto our proprietary platform, we’ve been able to bring new ideas to market much faster. This partnership with Checkd Dev is a great example, helping us solve a simple problem for football fans: researching and building an accumulator can sometimes feel like hard work!

“With one-click, data-driven selections we’ve made the process quicker and easier, while still giving customers the choice and depth they want. Accas are already one of our most compelling propositions, thanks to our popular promotion Acca Flex, and this launch makes them even more engaging. We’re also looking forward to exploring further opportunities to work with Checkd Dev in the future.”

UK bookies thinking outside box

ABS from Checkd Dev was introduced two years ago, with the proposition growing into a statistics-driven tool that improves conversion rates, preferred by tier-one operators thanks to meeting their demand for automated, pre-configured betting products.

Besides Betfred, some of the other household names taking advantage of Checkd Dev’s solution are William Hill powering its Bet Builder offer, as well as OpenBet with the launch of its Trending BetBuilder.

On their latest partnership with a major UK brand, Andrew Grimshaw, Commercial Director at Checkd Dev, added: “We are delighted to be working with fellow Mancunians Betfred on our Trending Bets product.

“More and more major bookmakers are recognising the tangible value of our automated betting solutions, and it is especially gratifying to collaborate with a local partner on this launch.”

It is not surprising that Betfred is focusing on improving its online offer. The legacy operator, similar to other high-street brands like William Hill and Ladbrokes in the UK, has cautioned that the new gambling tax regime in the country could put retail betting shops under pressure and force a wave of closures.

Although the tax rises will ultimately largely impact online betting, the knock on effect could see operators move to reduce costs by closing shops – in doing so offsetting costs from wages, rent, energy payments, and taxation.

Exclusively for SBC News, Joanne Whittaker, CEO of Betfred, commented: “Retail is hard, because costs on the high street continue to increase.”

“These are fixed costs, there’s nothing we can do, but we had a massive hit this year with national insurance changes and minimum wage particularly, plus the voluntary levy. We’ve been hit with a lot of costs in retail.

“We will always be passionate retailers and we will continue to invest in our retail estate, but it is difficult and it is on our mind.”
