Betfred has appointed former Paddy Power head Aidan Barry as the Warrington-based bookmaker’s new trading director.

Barry’s new role with the UK operator brings an end to his near three-year spell with Fortuna Entertainment Group (FEG), where he served as head of sportsbook product and trading.

Barry had relocated to Prague, Czechia for that position and will now return to the UK to join Betfred.

Prior to working with FEG, Barry completed the second of two separate spells with Paddy Power Betfair as head of commercial for racing and sports.

He previously served as head of brokerage and trading director for Matchbook, as well as working for PokerStars and his first Paddy Power Betfair stint between 2007 and 2015.

Reflecting on his new role, Barry told EGR: “I’m delighted to be joining Betfred as trading director at such an exciting time for the business.

“It’s a privilege to be working alongside CEO Jo Whittaker and to have the opportunity to learn from and work with the legendary [Betfred founder] Fred Done.

“With Betfred’s strong heritage, ambitious growth plans and talented team, we are well placed to capture market share and drive significant growth across retail and digital.”

In other Betfred news, the operator has selected mFuse as its new media planning and buying agency to lead its UK advertising strategy.

Having succeeded BBJ&K in the role, mFuse will now spearhead the company’s strategy, planning and media buying for TV, radio, on-demand and out-of-home.
