Betfred will remain as the title sponsor of the World Matchplay and Women’s World Matchplay darts tournaments after penning a new five-year deal.
The new partnership with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) was announced prior to the start of the men’s tournament on Saturday in Blackpool, with the women’s edition beginning on 27 July.
The deal first began in 2019, with Betfred replacing BetVictor as headline sponsor.
The new terms will extend the relationship between the PDC and Betfred to beyond a decade.
As part of the deal, prize money for the World Matchplay will increase to £1m in 2026, with £225,000 going to the men’s champion while £40,000 will be given to the women’s World Matchplay winner.
Betfred owner Fred Done said: “The Betfred World Matchplay is one of the highlights of the year – I love the seaside party atmosphere coupled with top quality sport.
“We’re delighted to extend our sponsorship with the PDC for another five years, during an exciting period for darts as a sport.
“The quality of the field has never been stronger, and we can only see these tournaments continuing to grow in the coming years.”
Matt Porter, PDC CEO, added: “Betfred ha[s] become synonymous with the World Matchplay since joining us as title sponsor in 2019, and it’s wonderful that they’ve extended that support for a further five years.
“Their backing of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay echoes their commitment to the sport, and we’re excited that prize money for both events will increase from 2026.
“This year’s Betfred World Matchplay sold out in record time following the huge success of our 2024 tournament, and we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool alongside Betfred next week.”
Reigning champion Luke Humphries was defeated by Gian van Veen on the opening night, with 2023 winner Nathan Aspinall also falling at the first hurdle.
The World Darts Championship continues to be sponsored by Paddy Power, while BetMGM holds the title rights to Premier League Darts.
