BetConstruct’s VBet has bucked the trend of withdrawals from the Dutch market with the launch of its online casino in the Netherlands.
The move comes two years after VBet launched its sportsbook in the Dutch market and almost five months since the country’s regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) awarded the Armenian company with an igaming licence in May.
VBet’s move into the Netherlands comes after other operators such as LiveScore Group and Flutter-owned tombola left the market due to soaring tax rates and regulations.
Betsson has also been preparing to re-enter the market but has blamed regulatory complications for a delay in its relaunch.
Tax on gross gambling revenue rose to a prohibitive 34.2% in January 2025, with a further hike to 37.2% planned for the start of 2026.
LiveScore Group CEO Sam Sadi recently told EGR: “From the early days of the market opening, regulators and legislators have continuously introduced not only tax increases but also other very costly and unforeseen regulatory processes.
“Changing regulations so abruptly completely altered the market conditions and viability.”
The LiveScore Group boss believes only the largest operators in the market – such as FDJ United’s market-leading Unibet – are able to absorb the regulatory hits.
BetConstruct will hope it has the muscle to compete. VBet’s online casino offers slots from nine different game providers, including the likes of Playson, Hacksaw and Pragmatic Play, which is also powering the operator’s live casino.
