Avenir’s future squashed by New York community advisory committee

There will be no future for the Avenir casino development, which had hoped to win one of three licences for New York City, following a vote by the community advisory committee who voted 4 to 2 to reject the plan.

Rush Street Gaming would have been the casino operator of Avenir, which means future in French, in New York City, in a proposal fronted by Silverstein Properties and Greenwood Gaming, for Manhattan’s Far West Side.

It would have hosted a 600,000 square foot gaming, entertainment, and restaurant complex, located on 92,000 square feet of undeveloped land at 41st Street and 11th Avenue, just north of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The meeting to consider Avenir only lasted fifteen minutes with the project suffering the same fate as Caesars Times Square, which was rejected an hour earlier in the same room.

Soloviev Group and Mohegan Gaming’s Freedom Plaza project is now the only one left in Manhattan.
