Hasse Lord Skarplöth has stepped down as CEO of Swedish horseracing operator ATG after more than 13 years at the helm.

In a statement, ATG said Skarplöth and the company’s board had reached an agreement for the CEO to step down.

“The background to the decision is that Hasse Lord Skarplöth and the board have different views on how ATG should be run going forward,” ATG said.

Skarplöth, who previously worked at mobile games company Modern Times Group, has served as the operator’s CEO since 2013.

He has been a vocal proponent for carving horseracing tax out of wider gambling tax rates in Sweden, a move recently announced in the UK.

ATG said its search for a new CEO began immediately after the decision was made.

In the meantime, ATG chair Peter Norman will serve as acting CEO during the transition period, while ATG CFO Lotta Nils will serve as deputy CEO.

Skarplöth said: “I have had the privilege of being CEO of ATG for a long period. It has been a fantastically rewarding time and I have appreciated every day I have gone to work.

“Together with committed and loyal employees, we have had an unprecedented growth journey.

“I am proud of what we have achieved and of the position the company has today. I wish ATG all the best in the future with all my heart.”

Norman added: “Hasse Lord Skarplöth has been CEO of ATG for over 13 years. During this time, ATG has developed into a professional gaming company that rests on three pillars – horseracing, sports betting and casino.

“Hasse has run the company in an exemplary manner, which has also included international expansion.

“The board would like to thank Hasse for his great contributions to ATG over the years and wishes him all the best in the future.”

Alongside Skarplöth’s departure, ATG announced its full-year 2025 NGR had decreased by 2% year on year to SEK5.2bn (£428.5m).

Horseracing NGR was down 1%, while sports betting and online casino slid by 2% and 7%, respectively.

Operating profit was down from SEK1.8bn to SEK1.5bn, representing a 15% YoY dip.

“Both the lower revenue and the increased gambling tax have a direct impact on the return to our owners and thus weaken the financing of horseracing. It is a development we are taking seriously,” Nilsson said.
