As the election season gets into full swing, the Associated Press (AP) has agreed to supply Kalshi with its “gold standard” election data ahead of the primaries. In a March 2 press release, the AP said Kalshi will get access to its live vote-count data and race calls for national and major state elections.

The announcement comes as Texas voters head to the polls on Tuesday for closely watched Senate primaries. Voters in Arkansas and North Carolina will also be voting on Tuesday. The agreement will allow Kalshi users to track AP’s live election data directly on the prediction market’s platform, where it’ll be displayed side-by-side with Kalshi’s own market-based forecasts.

The AP pointed out that Kalshi received over 500 million visits to its site during the 2024 presidential election, making it a top choice for election watchers. The news cooperative views its deal with Kalshi as an expansion of its election business, while Kalshi believes that combining live vote data with trading activity will give users a more complete election-night product.

AP & Kalshi Say Deal Expands Election Coverage

AP sees the deal as extending the reach of its election data business as demand for real-time election-night projections and results increases. Reacting to the new partnership, David Scott, vice president for AP Elections, said, “The Associated Press for nearly two centuries has played an essential role in American democracy as the most authoritative source for accurate results on election night.”

He added that AP is “pleased to be working with Kalshi” as it expands distribution of that data. AP also emphasized the scale of its election operations, saying that in 2024 it had called thousands of races and got it right almost every time.

Kalshi’s Head of Politics, Jaron Zhou, said the goal of its partnership with the AP was “creating a more complete picture of election night” for the prediction market users. He added, “Integrating AP’s live vote count data enhances Kalshi’s election night experience by bringing together real-time vote tallies and market activity.”

Kalshi Adds AP to Growing Media Roster

With the addition of the AP, Kalshi adds another mainstream media name to its growing list of news-related partnerships. While the AP deal focuses on election data rather than on-air market integration, it shows that news outlets see value in what prediction markets offer.

Besides AP, Kalshi inked a deal with CNN in December to feature its markets across the outlet’s coverage via a real-time ticker and its on-air and digital reporting. Just a couple of days after announcing its partnership with CNN, Kalshi announced it had entered a multi-year agreement with CNBC to integrate its real-time prediction data across TV, digital, and subscription products, beginning in 2026.

As prediction markets continue to court controversy, it’s clear that Kalshi isn’t slowing down, and these high-profile partnerships help the prediction market build credibility and get its name in front of the public, even if the bigger debate over these platforms is still far from being over.
