The Gambling Commission (GC) has appointed Kirsty Caldwell as interim chair of its Industry Forum as the regulator looks for a permanent successor to Nick Rust, whose term ended in November 2025.
Caldwell, the founder and CEO of Betsmart Consulting, has served on the forum since its inception in March 2024.
The Industry Forum provides the GC with feedback about the regulator’s strategy, as well as insight into the wider igaming environment in Britain.
Speaking about her new interim position, Caldwell said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role. I remain fully committed to building a healthy, respected gambling sector, and cooperation and communication between regulator and industry is key to achieving this.
“We may not get it right every time, but the important thing is we learn from our mistakes, we keep talking and we keep moving forwards.”

Caldwell, a regular contributor to EGR, founded Betsmart in 2019 after more than a decade in operator-side compliance.
Her career began at UK operator William Hill, where she worked her way from frontline customer service to senior compliance roles, culminating as head of online compliance.
Caldwell later served as vice-president of compliance at gaming firm Addison Global.
Earlier this week, the GC’s executive director, Tim Miller, accused social media giant Meta of “turning a blind eye” to ads for illegal igaming operators on its platform.
