Jelly Entertainment has named Steven Matsell as the supplier’s new CEO.
Matsell brings a wealth of experience to the top job after spending more than 20 years in the igaming sector, including previous roles at C-suite level.
As part of his arrival, current Jelly Entertainment CEO David Newstead will transition into the role of chief business development officer, tasked with expanding the firm’s market presence and bolstering the development of its sales funnel.
Most recently, Matsell had served as chief commercial officer (CCO) at RAW iGaming, having joined the company as senior vice-president of business development in April 2022 before quickly becoming CCO two months later in June.
In that post, he was charged with helping to integrate technology from Leander Gaming into RAW’s framework, following its acquisition of the supplier in in April 2022.
At the time of the deal, Matsell was CEO of Leander, a title he held for just shy of a decade between October 2012 and April 2022, as well as a being shareholder in the business.
Having been asked to move across to RAW as part of the acquisition’s integration, Matsell was entrusted to form a regulatory and commercial strategy in line with RAW’s ambitions in the US.
Alongside his duties as RAW CCO, the exec founded White Coral Group in July 2023, a legal advisory service within the igaming space where he continues to serve as managing partner.
Prior to Leander Games, Matsell spent seven-and-a-half years as director of Gaming Technology Solutions between April 2005 and September 2012, during which the business was acquired by Playtech in December 2009.
On joining Jelly Entertainment, Matsell said: “Stepping into this role excites me, and I’m inspired by the talented team around me.
“My goal is to build on the strong foundation David [Newstead] established, accelerating growth and new market expansion while upholding our commitment to service, relationships and values.”
Newstead, who has been Jelly’s CEO since 2020, added: “Steven has a great working rapport with me, aligns perfectly with the culture and character we’ve built, and has been with us from the beginning, playing a key role in driving our success. I couldn’t think of anyone better to lead us into our next growth phase.
“It’s been an honour to watch Jelly grow into a globally recognised B2B supplier. Now feels like the right time to step aside, and I’m confident the company is in great hands with Steven.”
Matsell’s appointment marks just the latest addition to Jelly’s leadership team, with another former RAW iGaming employee Silvio Insigne joining as CFO back in June.
Kim Eaglestone, former Light & Wonder head of UK studio, was added to Jelly’s C-suite in September as chief operations officer (COO), as well as Salvador Lima coming from IGT PlayDigital to become Jelly’s chief commercial officer (CCO) in the same month.
