PointsBet has announced Andrew Catterall as its new group CEO effective 1 February 2026, following the operator’s acquisition by Japanese gaming firm MIXI.

Currently CEO of PointsBet Australia, Catterall succeeds PointsBet co-founder Sam Swanell, who will stay on at the group in an advisory role and on the board of directors.

Before joining PointsBet, Catterall served as CEO of Racing.com from 2017 to 2021 having previously held senior roles at Racing Victoria and the AFL.

Catterall will be paid A$675,000 (£335.2m) as a base salary, plus being eligible for a short-term incentive awards of A$564,000 per year should he achieve certain targets.

Swanell will be paid A$310,000 as a base as he moves to his adviser role. He too will be eligible for incentives, as well as A$60,000 retention fees.

PointsBet said Swanell would be working closely with Catterall over the coming months to “ensure a smooth and orderly transition of responsibilities”.

MIXI acquired a 66% interest in PointsBet in September following a protracted bidding war with Australian rival Betr Entertainment.

The PointsBet board advised shareholders to accept the MIXI bid and reject the Betr offer during the acquisition process.

In October, PointsBet underwent a board reshuffle with five resignations and the appointment of three MIXI execs.

Brett Paton, PointsBet chair, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Sam Swanell for his exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment and deep contribution to PointsBet since founding the company.

“Sam has guided PointsBet through every stage of its development and growth, and his continued involvement in an advisory capacity, as well as his ongoing service on the board, will ensure the business continues to benefit from his insight and experience.

“We are delighted to appoint Andrew Catterall as group CEO. Andrew has delivered strong performance within our Australian operations and brings extensive industry expertise, strategic capability and leadership qualities that will guide PointsBet into its next phase.

“The board congratulates Andrew on his appointment and looks forward to working closely with him as he leads the group forward.”
