Every NFL season provides its fair share of incomprehensible finishes, and the 2025-26 campaign has thus far delivered a handful of “bad beats” that left bettors in rage and/or tears.
This list is definitely subjective. Sadistic, too? Perhaps, but we’ve all been there at one time or another.
Ravens vs. Bills (Week 1)
Spread: Ravens -1.5
The fun commenced during the opening week of the season. Baltimore controlled this contest throughout and took a 40-25 lead on Derrick Henry‘s 46-yard rushing touchdown with 11:42 left in the fourth quarter.
Baltimore’s fans and those who backed the Ravens as a slight favorite were about to enjoy a rocking-chair cover involving little to no stress. Until they weren’t.
With the Ravens on a game-sealing drive, Henry went from hero to zero by fumbling with 3:10 remaining.
The Ravens, who’d missed an extra point earlier, still led 40-32 at that point. But the Bills completed the improbable comeback on a Josh Allen rushing TD and ultimately a walk-off field goal by Matt Prater.
Final Score: Bills 41 Ravens 40
DraftKings stated that it was the worst single-game outcome in the history of the sportsbook. And for those Ravens fans and backers, too. Ouch.
Rams vs. Eagles (Week 3)
Spread: Rams +3.5
The Rams took a commanding 26-7 lead with 14:06 left in the third quarter. To that point, Philadelphia had done nothing besides “tush-pushing” quarterback Jalen Hurts to a TD.
To their credit, the Eagles fought back to make it 27-26 on AJ Brown‘s TD catch with 1:48 left in the game. Still, with LA’s 3.5 points in hand, you’re feeling great about your chances of covering. Until you aren’t.
The Rams set up for a last-second field goal to actually win the game, but then the unthinkable happened. Eagles DT Jordan Davis not only blocked the field goal, but he then carried the ball and his 336 pounds all the way to the end zone.
Final Score: Eagles 33 Rams 26
That was a damn dagger for an LA team poised to win outright. Insult to injury, the Rams didn’t even cover.
Cowboys vs. Eagles (Week 1)
Total (OVER/UNDER): 47.5
This one still hurts on a personal level. With a sizable ticket (by recreational standards, anyway) on OVER 47.5, I went to bed at halftime feeling great with the Eagles leading the Cowboys, 21-20. Dallas and Philadelphia scored on every single possession in the first half.
One touchdown and the extra point. Three field goals. A field goal and two safeties. Any one of those scenarios for two teams that traded turns going up and down the field in the opening half, and a nice hit on the OVER seemed assured. Until it wasn’t.
Philly kicker Jake Elliott banged home a 58-yard field goal to make it 24-20 with 8:30 left in the third quarter. And then…NOTHING…over the final 21 minutes and 30 seconds.
Final Score: 24-20
F*** me.
Colts vs. Rams (Week 4)
Spread: Indianapolis +3.5
This has been dubbed the “Mitchell Game” and likely by bettors who backed the Colts at +3.5 or +4, depending on the book. Indy rookie WR Adonai Mitchell got loose for a 76-yard TD early in the third quarter, but somehow fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line.
Instead of the Colts going up 17-13 early in the third quarter, a touchback resulted. Still, Indianapolis hung tough and led 20-13 with three minutes and change left in the game.
Then? Poof. Matthew Stafford led LA to two TD scoring drives in the last 3:20. What made this even more galling for Indianapolis bettors? The Colts only had 10 players on defense when TuTu Atwell scored on the game-winning 88-yard TD catch with 1:33 remaining.
Final Score: Rams 27 Colts 20
Titans vs. Cardinals (Week 5)
Moneyline odds: Cardinals -450
Another week, another rookie gaffe. This time by Arizona RB Emari Demercado, who casually dropped the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line on what would have been a 72-yard TD run.
You know what’s even worse? The Cardinals squandered a 15-point lead to the NFL’s worst team, allowing the Titans to score 16 points in the fourth quarter to win.
Final Score: Titans 22 Cardinals 21
That result crushed 3,150 entries in the $18.7M Circa Survivor pool, as the Cardinals were the second biggest choice in Week 5.
