North Carolina set a new sports betting handle record for the second consecutive month in November, while revenue reached its second-highest monthly total since the state launched legal online wagering in March 2024.
Sportsbook operators processed $814 million in bets during November. This was marginally ahead of the previous record of $811.4 million, set in October this year, while it also surpassed last November’s total by 23.8%.
Data from the North Carolina State Lottery Commission revealed $791.7 million of the total handle was “paid wagering revenue”. The remaining $22.3 million was processed as promo wagering revenue.
The commission also voided $3.5 million worth of bets and reported $717.6 million in player winnings for the month. As such, gross wagering revenue for November amounted to $92.9 million.
November’s revenue haul was the second-highest on record, behind the $105.3 million in April 2024. It surpassed November 2024 by 19% and was ahead of October this year by the same margin.
As for taxes, sports betting generated $16.7 million for the state during November.
Year-to-date handle exceeds $3 billion in North Carolina
In the current fiscal year, the state’s handle for the five months to the end of November was $3.16 billion. This comprised $3.06 billion in paid wagering and $105 million in promotional bets.
Some $19 million in bets were cancelled and players received back $2.83 billion. This resulted in a gross wagering revenue haul of $314.6 million from July-November, with taxes amounting to $56.6 million.
The state’s regulator does not publish data for individual operators. FanDuel, DraftKings, Fanatics, ESPN Bet, Bet365 and BetMGM are among those active in North Carolina.
