PENN Entertainment has announced the appointment of Nate Ravitz as the new head of the theScore brand.
In his role, Ravitz will be tasked with leading the brand’s media output, overseeing content, ad sales and growth.
Ravitz joined the operator after a 17-year stint with ESPN in various roles.
Initially joining ESPN as a general editor in March 2007, Ravitz went on to hold several vice-president roles during his time with the media giant.
He jointly held the titles of vice-president of digital content and vice-president of audience development between May 2016 and April 2022.
Ravitz would eventually work his way up to the role of senior vice-president of digital content and audience expansion between June 2023 and October 2024.
Writing about his appointment on LinkedIn, Ravitz said: “Thrilled to share that I’ve joined PENN Entertainment as head of theScore.
“In this new role I am leading the media business of PENN Interactive, overseeing content, ad sales and growth.
“I’ve long admired what theScore has been able to build and achieve in the incredibly-competitive landscape of mobile sports apps. I couldn’t be more honoured to join the team and build on that great legacy.
“Also happy to once again be teammates with Aaron LaBerge (PENN chief technology officer) and several other former colleagues. We’re playing to win.”
PENN has shifted its US-facing sports betting arm from ESPN Bet to theScore Bet after the early termination of its agreement with ESPN in November.
The original agreement with ESPN parent company Disney, worth $150m a year, was signed in 2023 and was initially meant to last for 10 years.
Inserted within the agreement was a clause which allowed either party to terminate after three years if certain market share targets weren’t met.
PENN acquired theScore in 2021 in a $2bn. The operator has been running theScore Bet in Canada since.
Following the closure of ESPN Bet, PENN launched its revamped sports betting platform across 21 US jurisdictions earlier this month.
One such state was Missouri, which opened the doors to its legal sports betting market on 1 December.
