The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has announced that the 2025 Safer Gambling Week initiative has “delivered its strongest results to date” in terms of online engagement.

This year’s campaign, spearheaded by the trade body, ran from 17 to 23 November.

According to the data released by the BGC, Safer Gambling Week 2025 garnered 80 million impressions across social media platforms such as X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

This marked a 40% increase compared to the 2024 iteration of the campaign.

The BGC also noted a “record number of senior cross-party MPs and peers” gave support to the campaign, including gambling minister Baroness Twycross, shadow DCMS secretary Nigel Huddleston and shadow gambling minister Louie French.

Gambling Commission CEO Andrew Rhodes also endorsed the campaign, while Premier League side Chelsea promoted Safer Gambling Week messages to its 25 million X followers.

A BGC statement read: “Now in its ninth year, Safer Gambling Week aims to spark a national conversation among staff, customers and their friends and families about safer gambling, while showcasing the wide range of tools that can help people stay in control of their betting.

“Importantly these safer gambling tools and protections are only available within the regulated sector.

“The growing illegal and harmful black market is determined to undermine this progress, where customers receive none of the safeguards, monitoring or support that licensed operators provide.

“This underscores the importance of maintaining a strong, well-regulated industry that can continue to invest in and promote robust player-protection measures.”

BGC CEO Grainne Hurst praised the record engagement delivered by the 2025 campaign, and the effectiveness of the safer gambling resources on offer to customers.

She added: “Safer Gambling Week 2025 has delivered record engagement, underlining our industry’s commitment to raising awareness of the safer gambling tools available to customers.

“The growth in engagement shows our message is reaching more people than ever. In previous years, increases in online activity have translated into greater uptake of tools such as time-outs and deposit limits, and we expect to see the same trend again.

“Thanks to the efforts of operators, organisations and supporters across the country, millions more people are now better informed about how to stay in control and enjoy betting safely. That is something our entire industry can take real pride in.

“As always, our commitment to safer gambling does not begin and end with this campaign. Safer Gambling Week shines a spotlight on the work we carry out year-round, ensuring that the regulated industry continues to prioritise customer protection every single week of the year.”

EGR was proud to once again partner with Safer Gambling Week to host the Safer Gambling Forum on 17 November – you can watch the sessions here.
