The online sports betting market in New York soared to new heights in November, with operators reporting a record $280.6m (£210.4m) in gross gaming revenue (GGR) according to new data from the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC).

The revenue figure, which smashed the previous record of $248.9m from May, represented a 21.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase from $231.6m – a new record at the time – in the same period of 2024.

November handle amounted to $2.61bn, just a tick below the record haul of $2.64bn from October.

Wagering volume was up 15.1% YOY as bettors took advantage of five full weekends of football – including a total of four standalone NFL games on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday – during the month.

Statewide hold was 10.8% in November, the first month since July featuring a double-digit win rate.

As a result, operators sent $143m back to the state in tax payments for the benefit of education.

FanDuel ended November out in front in the operator race, amassing $131.9m in GGR or 47% of the market, on $1bn in wagers – its second straight 10-figure month – equating to a hefty 13.2% hold.

DraftKings ranked a clear but distant second to its primary US competitor, generating $916.3m in handle and $89.1m in revenue for a 9.7% hold that registered as slightly below the statewide average.

Fanatics grabbed the final podium spot after accruing just under $23m in gross revenue on $209.1m in handle, good for a strong 11% win rate. The operator became the first licensed sports betting firm to go live with prediction markets earlier this month.

Rounding out the top five was Caesars ($186.2m handle, $14m GGR) and BetMGM ($171.6m handle, $13.5m GGR).

In other New York news, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the sweepstakes ban into law in the Empire State this week.

The approval of S5935, which was passed by the New York Assembly in June, means New York becomes the sixth states to ban sweepstakes operators via legislation in 2025.
