Federal Administrative Court backs Gaming Commission’s decision

Switzerland’s Federal Administrative Court has backed the Swiss Federal Gaming Commission’s decision (CFMJ) to fine Casino de Neuchâtel 570,000 francs for failing to pay attention to several at-risk gamblers.

It affirmed the penalty at appeal, saying the casino played down warning signals several times. The ruling said the casino had allowed one man to lose CHF40,000, another to lose CHF36,000, and an apprentice who earns 500 francs a month, to lose CHF4,000 in one evening. In several cases, it said that the casino did not act early enough or closed proceedings despite obviously fragile financial situations. The FAC reprimanded this passivity, rejected mitigating circumstances and added CHF10,000 in costs.
