MGM Resorts is expected to hire 12,000 employees for the construction of the new MGM Osaka integrated resort, showcasing the scale of one of the largest casino developments worldwide, as was revealed by CEO William Hornbuckle.
The Japan Tourism Agency made a statement about the tireless work that the MGM Osaka team has put into the project together with the Osaka prefectural and city governments. After 16 years of planning, the project is MGM’s biggest expansion in Asia yet, with a price tag of $12 billion.
Not only will MGM be the only casino in Japan, which has a population of 120 million, but it is also likely that it will be one of the biggest casinos in the world.
CEO Hornbuckle turned to Singapore’s model of integrated resorts and mentioned that their success gives hope to the Japanese market and how it can help boost the economy and tourism.
MGM Osaka is being developed in collaboration with Japan’s ORIX Corporation, as Steve Zanella was appointed as president and chief executive of MGM’s Japan operations.
The resort, located on the artificial island of Yumeshima, is set to open in 2030 and will feature retail areas, luxury hotels, casinos, and dining venues. Thanks to this, it’s expected to bring 20 million visitors annually.
The project has a planned value of $8.1 billion after going through years of regulatory review and finally receiving approval in 2023. Developers believe the resort will bring $6.4 billion in economic benefits during the first 10 years, including job opportunities, tourism, transportation, and hospitality.
