Previously, self-exclusion in France required visiting a police station, filling out paper forms, showing ID, and meeting officials in person. Moreover, the exclusion referred only to casinos and gaming clubs. Online gambling was added after it was legalised in 2010, and the ANJ took over the register in 2020.
With this update, anyone can independently control their access through interdictiondejeux.anj.fr. Currently, the process uses ID verification and a dynamic selfie via IDnow, with activation completed in just one day.
The platform already has 85,000 registered users, which is significantly more when compared to 2021, when there were only 40,000 users. Most registrants are men, with young adults aged 18–34 making up more than half the list. Sports betting and online poker are common triggers, while older adults mainly cite casino play.

Looking ahead, ANJ will launch personalized accounts in 2026. Registrants will be able to track their exclusion, access documents, and request a lift after the three-year minimum. A new call-back system will also gather user feedback to improve support.
