Hippos ATG has added another name to its ever-growing C-suite, following the appointment of Jussi Nurmi as the JV’s new COO.
Nurmi joins the ATG and Suomen Hippos JV having amassed significant experience in the Nordic igaming market.
He served as commercial strategy director at TonyBet between April 2023 and October 2024.
Prior to that, Nurmi spent six years between 2016 and 2022 in various roles at Betsson Group, focussed on the operator’s Finland-facing business.
While there, he served as head of marketing from October 2017 to May 2020, before moving up to the role of managing director from January 2019 to August 2022.
In addition to carrying out consulting work from April 2019 onwards, Nurmi also serves as a partner at Finnish recruitment and job search platform Rekruu.
Speaking about Nurmi’s appointment, Hippos ATG CEO Mikael Bäcke said: “We are very pleased to welcome Jussi to Hippos ATG.

The JV was announced by the pair back in January, with a view to launching when the revamped Finnish gaming market opens in January 2027.
Each firm will hold a 50% stake in the JV, with profits distributed 60/40 in favour of Suomen Hippos.
The JV will offer horseracing, online casino and sports betting in the newly regulated Finnish market.
In addition to Bäcke’s appointment as CEO in June, Hippos ATG has also added Joonas Saha as chief commercial officer, and Antii Koivula as chief compliance officer.
