The UK Gambling Commission has suspended the license of VGC Leeds Limited, the company running the Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds city center, stopping all of the company’s operations, including its land-based and remote gambling activities, as well as its bingo license.

According to the recent inspection, VGC Leeds failed to properly maintain and apply effective anti-money laundering (AML) policies and controls. It also raised concerns about how the company made decisions and handled risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing.

The UKGC released a statement:

“These failings are considered significant and represent a serious threat to the licensing objectives, in particular, keeping crime out of gambling. We have made it clear to the operator that during the suspension, we expect it to focus on treating consumers fairly and keeping them fully informed of any developments which impact them.”

This is not the first time VGC Leeds has faced regulatory action. In 2021, it agreed to pay a £450,000 penalty after similar failings were identified.
