Gespa files criminal complaint related to blockchain-based NFT platform FIFA Collect

Intercantonal Gambling Supervisory Authority files against FIFA

The Intercantonal Gambling Supervisory Authority (Gespa) has filed a criminal complaint with the relevant law enforcement authorities in connection with the blockchain-based NFT platform of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Gespa said: “In the course of the investigation of the facts, the suspicion has been confirmed that collect.fifa.com are offering money games that are not authorised in Switzerland and are therefore illegal. Gespa is obliged to notify the competent law enforcement authorities if it becomes aware of violations of the Swiss Gambling Act.”

“Gespa became aware of the online platform collect.fifa.com at the beginning of October 2025. Various competitions (drops, challenges, etc.) are offered there in connection with so-called collectibles. These collectibles are non-fungible tokens (NFTs).”

“Participation in the competitions can only be taken with a stake of monetary value, with the prospect of monetary benefits. Whether the participants make a profit depends on random draws or similar procedures. From the point of view of gambling law, the offers in question are partly lotteries and partly sports betting (right to final).”

“The final criminal assessment is the responsibility of the prosecution authorities. If necessary, they can consult Gespa for the investigation. In order to respect the jurisdiction of the law enforcement authorities, we are currently refraining from providing further information.”
