One of the first casinos following the Casino Act 2020 to make way for new licence
After 23 years of operations, Swiss Casinos Schaffhausen has shut its doors for the last time on October 12, 2025, to make way for the licence being developed at a new location in Winterthur, which is set to open in December.
Swiss Casinos CEO Marcel Tober said: “After 23 years, Swiss Casinos in Schaffhausen has closed its doors. It was an emotional farewell to our location in Schaffhausen. A big thank you to our crew and our casino director Melanie Herzog. They gave everything until the end and gave our guests a dignified farewell.
In about eight weeks, we will open our new Swiss Casino in Winterthur. I am particularly pleased that more than 90 per cent of our team from Schaffhausen is moving with us to Winterthur.”
The casino in Schaffhausen opened in September 2002 as one of the first casinos in the newly regulated Swiss casino sector following the Casino Act of 2000.
Despite being the smallest venue in Swiss Casinos‘ portfolio, it was home to The Gatsby Bar, which regularly hosted live events, concerts and Bingo Nights.
Deborah Conte Santoro, Head of Customer Experience Marketing at Swiss Casinos, explained that Swiss Casino Winterthur will be a next-generation casino that reflects the company’s vision for the future of retail gaming and entertainment. It will have a strong focus on multi-channel integration. Across the property, it will use smart technologies with many service areas, such as check-in and the cashier, being fully automated.
