Checkd Group has named former Spotlight Sports Group head James Prosser as the company’s new growth director.

The new hire, who has been serving as a consultant for the Manchester-based company since April, will join on a permanent basis in a newly created role.

Prosser will be responsible for focusing on CRM and conversion touch points, as well as exploring “wider revenue initiatives” in the UK and the US.

During his time as a consultant, Prosser helped Checkd Group roll out its refreshed US-facing SmartPicks Pro tool.

Prosser previously spent more than two years with Spotlight Sports Group, initially joining as a B2C director for sport in October 2020.

He joined the company after it acquired Apsley Group International, a sports betting affiliate Prosser co-founded in 2013.

Prosser was then shifted to affiliate director for sports in January 2022 before departing the Racing Post parent company in February 2023.

He has been serving as an independent consultant since December 2023, predominantly to Checkd Group but also pricing, AI, data and social media start-ups.

Following his permanent appointment, Prosser said he had been “very impressed” with the business during his stint as a consultant.

He said: “I have been very impressed with the success that Checkd Group has achieved in the past six months, having seen first hand the significant increases in organic traffic and users for our Footy Accumulators site, plus a large increase in bookmaker clickouts in that time.

“I have had the pleasure of working with an extremely welcoming and engaged team at Checkd Group, and I am eager to continue working towards the company’s clear vision for growth, with new features and projects lined up for the coming year.”

He added: “In my new role, I will be aiming to improve conversion and direct operator revenue across all channels, plus assisting with growth and revenue maximisation for all brands including SmartPicks.”

Alex Beecham, Checkd Media managing director, added: “James’ appointment as growth director was essential for Checkd Group to keep pushing conversion rates up, as we continue to improve our top of funnel traffic across products.

“James’ proven experience in the industry is key to helping us push the product suite forward.”
