Both Georgia and Alabama. remain among the few in the U.S. where sports betting is not legal. Alabama doesn’t even have a state lottery, with lawmakers repeatedly blocking proposals. Georgia, while slightly more open, has also stalled for years. Supporters argue that legalization could generate large amounts of tax revenue, while opponents continue to come up with moral and constitutional objections.

Trump Jr did not specifically state whether he plans to actively push for a change in this topic, but his words carry weight, as he has become more involved in prediction markets, joining the advisory boards of platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi.

Georgia may be inching closer to action. A state House committee has been reviewing gaming issues, and the PGA Tour has come out in favor of sports betting. Earlier, big casino operators, such as Wynn Resorts and Boyd Gaming, announced their interest in Georgia if the laws change.

Advocates believe 2026 could finally be the year Georgia moves forward after repeated failures. However, for now, both Georgia and Alabama remain locked out of legal sports betting, even as nearly every other state in the SEC region has embraced it.
