Boyd Gaming has confirmed that it was the victim of a cyber attack, adding that it ‘no impact’ on its casino or hotel properties.
Boyd Gaming Corporation disclosed it suffered a breach after threat actors gained access to its systems and stole data, including employee information and data belonging to a limited number of other individuals. The firm employs over 16,000 people and had an annual revenue of $3.9bn in 2024.
The attack ‘removed certain data from the company’s IT systems, including information about employees and a limited number of other individuals. The company is notifying impacted individuals and has notified or will notify its various regulators and other governmental agencies as required.’
It added that it didn’t believe the attack ‘a material adverse effect on the company’s financial condition or results of operations.’
“The company maintains a comprehensive cybersecurity insurance policy, which we expect will cover costs associated with incident response and forensic investigations, as well as business interruptions, legal actions and regulatory fines, if any, subject to policy limits and deductibles,” it added.
Michael Tigges, senior security operations analyst at Huntress, said, “Casinos present an especially attractive target – large volumes of personal data, continuous cash flow, and complex IT environments make for high-value operations that demand layered defence strategies. Boyd Gaming’s swift disclosure underscores a growing recognition within the gaming industry that transparency is vital when responding to sophisticated attacks. While details remain limited, the incident highlights the importance of real-time visibility across endpoints and identities.
“Given the geographically dispersed nature of gaming industries, the necessity for Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) solutions is of critical importance as adversarial activity may span multiple physical locations, potentially across the world.
“This breach serves as a reminder that continuous monitoring and rapid incident response are no longer optional but central to safeguarding both employee data and brand trust. Affected or potentially affected end users should immediately engage in steps to shore up defences around their identity, such as securing bank details, changing affected passwords, etc., and remain vigilant for phishing attempts or malicious emails targeting associated inboxes.”
