The Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg celebrated its 40th birthday with a three-day party program, attended by celebrities, who posed for photos and gave interviews.
Among them: Ralf Moeller, Lilly Becker, Ruth Moschner and Barbara Meier. The sports world was also represented: Dortmund Champions League winner Karl-Heinz Riedle, Olympic swimming champion Britta Steffen and Formula 1 reporters Kai Ebel and Heiko Wasser. Together with guests from Dortmund’s urban society and representatives of the Merkur Group, they celebrated the start of an unforgettable anniversary weekend.
“40 years of Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg – this is real entertainment made in the Ruhr area,” said Ralf Moeller. Lilly Becker recalled her own casino past: “I worked as a croupier myself – so I know how much passion there is in this profession. It’s nice to celebrate today.” Model Barbara Meier added: “What a wonderful anniversary celebration! An exciting journey through time in a place that has made history.”
After the red carpet event, the event hall continued to be glamorous: an exclusive gala show thrilled the guests, crowned by a surprise appearance by pop star Sandra. With her mega hit “Maria Magdalena” she took the audience back to 1985 – the year in which the Hohensyburg also opened its doors.
But it was not only the dinner show that thrilled the audience. Two floors up, casino visitors cheered on the “Big Casino Gameshow” – and experienced unexpected celebrity power: Actor Marc Weinmann, swimming ace Britta Steffen and society star Lilly Becker were drawn for a celebrity special game show on stage. Britta Steffen in particular cleaned up. With the right combination at the money safe, she raised 4,444 euros for a good cause. As the Olympic champion revealed, she will donate the money to the Philipp Lange Foundation. The highlight of the evening was the finale of the “Big Casino Gameshow”, where the celebrity guests and casino visitors alike cheered along and at the end saw how a lucky winner cheered the main prize of 10,000 euros in a shower of confetti.
“The Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg has been a beacon of entertainment in Germany for 40 years – a place where tradition and innovation go hand in hand. From the very beginning, our trademark has been live entertainment, which goes far beyond the actual games offered in the classic game and slot machine games. We’ve redefined and continuously developed casino entertainment with shows, events and offerings that connect people. This anniversary shows how strongly the Hohensyburg has established itself as a symbol of first-class entertainment. At the same time, it is an incentive for us to continue this success story and actively shape the future of casino entertainment,” emphasized David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Casinos.
The anniversary celebrations at the Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg will go into the next round on Friday evening: With “Bingo with Cassy”, guests can expect another show highlight, where each bingo will be awarded 100 euros in cash. In addition, presenter Cassy Carrington and her assistant Ecki will play out a guaranteed main prize of 5,000 euros. The casino birthday of the Merkur Spielbank Hohensyburg finally comes to a brilliant conclusion on Saturday: While during the day all guests can try their luck at the “Play Money Rally” at various stations, in the evening things get hot: At the game show “Auto-Alarm”, all casino visitors have the chance to fulfill their dream of a sports car and drive a new Mercedes-AMG CLE 35 from the forecourt of the Dortmund casino.
