Svenska Spel has reported 94% of its Q3 revenue has come from “healthy” customer play, representing a 0.7 percentage point increase against its Q2 performance.

The Swedish state-owned operator said the 94% figure is made up of customers who gamble responsibly and with a “low risk of gambling problems”.

The calculation for the healthy revenue amount is based on risk models incorporated in Svenska Spel’s analysis tool, Playscan.

Playscan allows the operator to categorise customers based on their respective spending and gambling behaviours.

The categorisation is marked against the risk each customer has of developing problem gambling issues, with those at low risk reported as healthy.

Svenska Spel said the data for Q3 was “more accurate” than previous iterations due to further developments within its assessment methodology.

The company also noted that improved collaboration with its poker supplier, Playtech, meant the operator was able to “further calibrate the measurement of revenue” from the vertical.

Accordingly, this meant there was a marginal, but positive, effect on the percentage of healthy revenue in the business.

Anna Johnson, Svenska Spel CEO, said: “In the third quarter, 94% of our net gaming revenue came from customers who play [at] a low risk.

“Out of concern for our customers, we work purposefully to reduce revenue from those who gamble in a way that can lead to problems. This is a conscious priority as we want sustainable growth, where we balance growth with responsibility.”

Elsewhere, Svenska Spel has committed SEK5.9m (£431,639) to seven research projects in Sweden to investigate gambling-related harm.

In September, the operator joined forces with several Swedish sporting federations to launch a new initiative to tackle match-fixing.
