Sports betting revenue and handle in Virginia both fell to 11-month lows during July, although the state was able to report year-on-year growth.
Adjusted gross betting revenue in Virginia reached $45.6 million in July, according to the Virginia Lottery. This was 12.9% more than the same month last year, but 20.1% behind June and the lowest monthly total since August 2024.
Breaking this down, $45.1 million of total betting revenue came from online wagering, with retail contributing $522,452.
Virginia handle hits $429.3 million in July
In terms of customer spending, monthly handle in July was $429.3 million. Again, this beat last year by 13.7% but was the lowest since August 2024 and 10.2% behind June.
Online spend amounted to $427.2 million, while players also wagered $2.1 million at retail locations inside casinos. This resulted in a monthly hold of 10.62%.
Other data published by the Virginia Lottery showed players receiving back $379.8 million from winning bets and $3.9 million in undisclosed “other deductions”. As for tax, the total from sports betting in July was $6.8 million.
Some 14 licensed online operators were active in Virginia in June, in addition to three retail sportsbooks.
