Romania’s National Office for Gambling (ONJN) has taken new action against illegal online gambling by adding 30 more gambling websites to its official blacklist, aiming to protect the market from operators that do not hold a Romanian license.
The list includes both well-known and smaller international platforms, such as wazbee.casino, jacktop.com, roostake.com, several “nv” casino sites, and multiple ybets domains. These sites will no longer be accessible in Romania.
Under the ONJN’s rules, internet service providers in the country now have 15 days to block all access to the banned platforms. Trying to access any of these domains will eventually lead to ONJN’s official page. Blacklisted operators can still challenge the decision within 30 days, but only with an appeal filed with the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
Issues around ONJN
Earlier this year, Romania’s Court of Accounts (CCR) released a report highlighting serious issues inside the regulatory body. According to the report, almost RON 3.6 billion ($1 billion) in licensing and authorization fees were not properly declared between 2019 and 2023.
All these have fueled political debate and increased pressure for tougher gambling laws. Recently, Romania urged Meta and Google to remove illegal gambling ads. It is expected that very soon, stricter controls will be implemented, including spending limits for players and tighter oversight of gambling companies.
