The Lottery Corporation has named Allwyn North America boss Wayne Pickup as its new CEO and managing director, effective from 24 November.
Pickup joins the Australian business to replace Sue van der Merwe, who announced her retirement earlier this year having led The Lottery Corporation for the past three years.
Van der Merwe will remain in her post until November and will help ensure a smooth leadership transition, the lottery firm added.
Pickup will serve as an independent observer to the board prior to his official arrival.
He will move to the company having served as Allwyn North America CEO since March 2018, which he will depart on 14 November. The operator has yet to confirm his replacement.
Prior to that role, Pickup spent almost six years heading up Lotto New Zealand. That marked his second spell with the country’s lottery, having worked across various positions between 2003 and 2008.
Pickup will be paid A$1.5m a year, plus a signing-on bonus of A$500,000. Relocation costs for his move to Brisbane will also be covered.
The new boss will also be entered into short- and long-term incentive plans, and he must give 12 months’ notice should he wish to resign.
