OpenBet has made more than 80 members of staff redundant across several of its European and global offices, EGR can exclusively reveal.
Employees in the UK and other European locations were informed about the redundancies at the end of February.
Support engineers in both the UK and Canada were among those to be let go, as well as employees in the supplier’s development teams.
OpenBet’s UK offices are in Chiswick, West London. As per OpenBet’s most recent Companies House filing, at the end of 2023, the supplier had 319 staff based in the UK.
EGR understands staff at OpenBet’s Greek and Ukrainian offices were also affected by the lay-offs.
EGR also understands the streamlining comes as part of OpenBet’s move to a co-location model, essentially consolidating resources into singular offices.
Despite the lay-offs in Greece and Ukraine, offices in those countries have been earmarked as consolidation bases.
Some staff were let go immediately, while others resigned. Other staff were said to have negotiated their own leaving dates, with some having left in recent weeks.
Remaining impacted staff are currently serving out their notice periods. The redundancy consultation process has also now concluded.
Sources close to OpenBet suggested the changes formed part of the company’s evolution and that the location changes for jobs would allow for certain teams to work closer together, better serving its customers.
OpenBet’s operator clients include Flutter Entertainment, Entain, PENN Entertainment, Tabcorp and Allwyn.
OpenBet was recently sold by Endeavor to OB Global Holdings, alongside IMG Arena, for $450m (£350m).
OB Global Holdings is formed of the OpenBet management team.
First announced last November, the deal was finalised at the end of March with CEO Jordan Levin remaining in place.
Endeavor has since agreed to sell IMG Arena to Sportradar. As part of the OpenBet deal, Endeavor retained the right to put IMG Arena to market.
Endeavor initially paid approximately $800m to purchase OpenBet from Light & Wonder, formerly known as Scientific Games, at the end of September 2022.
