During May, gross gambling revenue in Macau reached MOP21.19 billion. This marked a 5% increase compared to May 2024 and was 12.4% higher than April of the same year.

Macau observed its highest monthly gross gambling revenue since the pre-Covid-19 period this May, with the year-to-date revenue nearly touching MOP100 billion ($12.38 billion). Contributing factors included an additional weekend in the month and several popular national holidays which attracted more visitors and activity.

Previously, Macau’s post-pandemic monthly high was recorded in October 2024, with revenues reaching MOP20.79 billion. This May’s figures exceeded that by 2%, as noted by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau data.

As of May, the year-to-date revenue in Macau stood at MOP97.71 billion, indicating a 1.7% increase over the same period in 2024.

### Macau Beats Estimates in May

Analysts from Seaport Research Partners indicated that Macau’s performance in May exceeded expectations, aided by an extra Saturday. Weekend days typically generate about 20% more revenue than weekdays.

The Dragon Boat Festival in Macau occurred earlier this year, from May 31 to June 2, whereas in 2024, it took place in mid-June. This earlier scheduling helped boost the activities and visitor numbers.

Seaport had projected a 5.3% year-on-year growth rate for May.

Looking ahead to June, they predicted a 3.4% increase in year-on-year revenue, despite expecting a 13.7% decline from May’s figures. The June forecast is considered ‘conservative’ by the analysts, who cite potential impacts from typhoons as the season begins.

For the entire year, Seaport anticipates a 4% rise in gross gaming revenue in Macau, driven by enhanced marketing efforts from operators and improving consumer trends in China. They noted, “China’s stimulus and policy measures are likely to bolster China’s economy and enhance consumer confidence later this year.”

Analysts also pointed out that increased activity during popular Chinese national holidays in May contributed to the 5% annual increase in revenue.
