The Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA) of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance has suspended seven operators in the market for failing to provide proof of adequate cybersecurity protocols.
Each operator did not submit a security assessment report to the regulator within 90 days of receiving its license, which is required by the country’s gambling regulations.
Among the suspended operators is Bell Ventures Digital, which manages the BandBet brand. Also included are Logame do Brasil and its associated platforms LiderBet, GeralBet, and B2xBet.
Additional suspended operators are BETesporte Apostas Online, PixBet, and EA Entertainment and Sports. BETesporte Apostas Online runs the BETesporte and Lance de Sorte websites, PixBet oversees PixBet, FlaBet, and Bet da Sorte platforms, and EA Entertainment and Sports controls Bateu Bet, Hanz Bet, and Esportiva Bet.
SorteNaBet Gaming Brasil, which operates SorteNaBet, Betou, and BetFusion, along with Bet.Bet, responsible for its namesake platform and DonaldBet, are also included in the list of sanctioned operators.
The suspensions were issued on May 30, with SPA imposing a daily fine of R$40,000 (approximately £5,128) for each additional day of non-compliance.
The regulator outlined that these suspensions are precautionary measures that will remain in place until proof of cybersecurity is provided.
An SPA statement noted, “The Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance has adopted precautionary measures against each of the aforementioned betting operators and their respective betting websites and apps, to ensure the safety of bettors amid repeated non-compliance with regulatory requirements.”
“The absence of reports compromises the safety of bettors and the popular economy, hinders the fight against money laundering, and affects the collection of taxes and contributions.”
“The decision is taken as a precautionary measure to prevent betting companies from offering bets, accepting deposits within the national territory, and registering new bettors until they demonstrate proof of the cybersecurity of their operations. The suspension will remain in effect until the non-compliance is resolved.”
Following the initial round of suspensions on May 30, Bell Ventures Digital, Logame do Brasil, BETesporte Apostas Online, and SorteNaBet are the only operators listed as suspended by the SPA.
Recently, the Brazilian Sports Commission approved proposals for new restrictions on gambling advertising within the country.
Proposed measures include a ban on betting advertisements during live broadcasts of sporting events or in printed media, as well as prohibiting any static or electronic advertising of fixed-odds betting in stadiums and sporting venues.
