Edward Mackrill has announced his departure as CEO of Stech Technology, a move that occurred six weeks after the company relinquished its license to operate in Great Britain. Mackrill initially joined STech in March 2020 as Chief Compliance Officer before ascending to the role of CEO in June 2022.
Prior to his involvement with the company, Mackrill held a position at BGO Group as the head of compliance and money laundering reporting officer (MLRO) from November 2018 to February 2020. Before this, he was a senior compliance specialist at Betway Group from July 2016 to November 2018. His background also encompasses a tenure as an online specialist at Great Britain’s Gambling Commission from April 2014 to April 2016, and he served as a casino product manager at Betclic Everest Group from 2011 to 2012.
In a statement on LinkedIn, Mackrill shared his reflections on his time with STech, stating, “After three incredible years as CEO of STech, I’ve decided it’s time to step aside. It’s been a wild, challenging, and rewarding ride – one I’m immensely proud of.”
“I’ve been in the gambling industry for 19 years. I’ve worked night shifts in a call center, managed CRM programs, and have both represented and opposed at the regulator’s table,” he continued. “I’ve been a head of compliance, an MLRO, a board member, an executive, and a CEO. I’ve built teams, launched platforms, handled crises, navigated regulation, scaled businesses, and made the hard calls.”
Mackrill also highlighted the breadth of his professional challenges and successes, adding, “I’ve dealt with problems most people don’t even see coming – and I’ve come out the other side sharper, calmer, and more certain of what works (and what really doesn’t).”
Looking towards the future, Mackrill expressed his excitement for new ventures. “I’ve got a few exciting things lined up already – some within the industry, and some deliberately outside it. After nearly two decades in gambling, it’s time to apply what I’ve learned in new ways, in new spaces, with people who want to do bold things well.”
He concluded his farewell message by expressing gratitude to his colleagues and optimism for future connections. “To those I’ve worked with over the years: thank you. It’s been a privilege. And to those I haven’t crossed paths with yet – I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Go STech – I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines.”
On April 15, 2025, STech Technology had previously surrendered its remote betting licenses for Great Britain, which were originally granted on June 14, 2018. The company also relinquished its B2C gaming service licence in Malta.
