France’s gambling regulator, l’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), is bringing back its impactful campaign Behind the Label just in time for the Roland Garros tennis grand slam.

Running from May 25 to June 8, the campaign aims to highlight the real human cost of gambling addiction. Rather than relying on fine print warnings, Behind the Label brings those tiny disclaimers to life through real stories and lived experiences, showing that a short sentence at the bottom of an ad doesn’t even begin to explain the emotional and financial spiral that some gamblers face.

Originally launched during the Euro Championships and Paris Olympics, the campaign is now targeting tennis fans, hoping to connect on a more personal level as excitement builds around one of France’s biggest sporting events.

Problem gambling gains momentum in France

Recent findings by the French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction revealed that 1.17 million people in France struggle with problem gambling. Of those, 360,000 gamble at an excessive level, with sports betting being at the top.

Behind the Label will air across TV and digital platforms, encouraging players to use free online resources like Evalujeu to assess and manage gambling habits.

ANJ continues to push for stricter ad controls, requiring all licensed operators to submit marketing plans twice a year. The goal? A serious reduction in harmful gambling within three years.
